What is cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrency is decentralized digital money designed to be used over the internet. It makes it possible to transfer value online without the requirement for a middleman. Cryptocurrencies are not issued or controlled by any government or central bank.

Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are powered by a technology called blockchain. Blockchain is a list of transactions that anyone can view and verify. Payments via blockchain can be more secure than standard debit/credit card transactions.

What is Bitcoin

Created by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008, Bitcoin is digital money that allows secure peer-to-peer transactions on the internet. Two people, anywhere in the world, can send bitcoin to each other without the involvement of a bank, government or other institution.

What is Ethereum

Created in 2015, Ethereum is the second-biggest cryptocurrency by Market cap after Bitcoin. Ethereum was created to build a global, decentralized computing platform that takes the security and openness of blockchains and extends those attributes to a vast range of applications.

Where to buy

Cryptocurrency exchanges like eToro, Coinbase and Binance are great places to buy and sell cryptocurrency in the UK. Most cryptocurrency exchanges now accept regular payment methods to deposit money like debit/credit cards and bank transfers.
